Professional Practices
Today's professional practices are forced to function in an environment of constant and often chaotic change. Studies indicate that the majority of "change initiatives" still fail and/or lead to temporary losses in profitability (Standish, 2009).
Often, the focus of the practice is related to the decisions associated with the change itself, and the impact on the individual employee is not recognized. Studies have shown that employees either consciously or unconsciously react to "change" in such a way that it often leads to staff anxiety, lower morale, and absenteeism, among other effects; factors which often negatively impact efficiency and productivity. The nature and the extent of the employee response to change is situational and unique to each office. A few examples of "change initiatives" which may have a significant impact on the professional office include:
- A change in office software, or implementation of new software package.
- The addition of a new doctor(s) to the practice.
- The retirement of a doctor in the practice.
- Office mergers and/or acquisitions.
- A change in location, or addition of a satellite office.
- The addition of a new key position(s) in the practice, or a personnel change in an existing key
position (eg. Office Manager).

PivotPoint has developed the LOE Index as a cost effective diagnostic methodology to enable us to effectively assist the professional practice anticipate and react to the "individual" response to change initiatives. Using the LOE Index and an intermittent onsite presence-- the pulse of the practice can be measured and effectively followed during the implementation process. By identifying the negative reactions, often even before they begin to emerge, we can provide guidance so that if or when interventions are necessary, they can be scheduled to optimize and re-optimize the efficiency of the change process…
